Growing up, my sister and I weren’t always close. With an age difference of four years between us, we were always in different stages at different times — when she finished highschool, I just started and when she was writing her last university exam, I was studying for my first. I was always the little sister who just wanted to hang out with her older sister. Now as we are well into adulthood (sigh), I guess I’m finally cool enough to hang out with her and her friends. This year was a milestone birthday for her and it was definitely fun to celebrate with her — sumo suits, glow sticks, zebra tights, and all.
Sometimes birthday dinners are held at fancy steakhouses or seafood restaurants and sometimes they happen at simple unpretentious restaurants such as Jambo Grill. Above – Jambo Wings with Tilli Tilli Sauce.
I have weird pet peeves. One of which is that I hate it when my dipping sauces. So when I saw this dish and the little area that not only holds Jambo Grill’s various sauces, but separates them, I was quite thrilled.

“Jambo” in Swahili means “Hello”. The welcoming atmosphere at Jambo Grill definitely reinforces its namesake. Though the food takes time to prepare, the African and Indian influences and flavors makes it worth it. And for our family, it was a little something different from our usual birthday dinners.
